Sacramento, CA

Provided energy modeling and façade thermal analysis for the various façade system options for the renovation of the Department of Motor Vehicles headquarters in Sacramento, California. After the decision was made to proceed with a dual skin façade design, Our team’s focus shifted to optimizing the performance of the dual skin, as well as the associated energy efficiency and economic value. In addition to the dual skin options analyzed, an optimization simulation was performed in order to determine the most effective and economical orientation of the shade fins located on the west side of the building. The optimization was performed to determine the ideal length of the fins in order to maximize beneficial solar heat gains in the winter months while minimizing the solar heat load in the summer..
