San Francisco, CA

Brandeis Hillel Day School (BHDS) is an independent co-educational school for students in grades K-8 in San Francisco.

Our design engineers provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing and lighting design for the new Gymnasium and Theater building. The space consists of a main gym/theater, dressing and drama room, girls’ and boys’ locker rooms/restrooms, office and related storage space spanning approximately 18,000 SF. The roof top of the building will serve as a children’s play area with associated athletic storage space.

The project was designed to LEED Gold standard with the harnessing of natural ventilation, and daylighting. Radiant heating was provided to condition the space in winter whilst natural ventilation provided all the cooling necessary for the school during the warmer months due to the cool micro-climate. Our sustainable design team developed a thermal ventilation model for the gyms bleacher seating area to understand comfort and temperature.
