El Cerrito, CA

This AIA design award winning innovative classroom building is one of the greenest learning spaces in Northern California,

The building is 97% more energy-efficient than a building of comparable size and function and serves as a healthy learning environment for middle school students. Project goals included meeting the School’s commitment to students, educators and the community to incorporate sustainable design elements throughout. The school kids were integral to the design and construction process as the tracked progress as part of their internal classroom project.

Our design engineers provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing and sustainable design for a 14,000 SF, innovative classroom addition for this school. Natural Ventilation and Daylight were harnessed by our design team. A ventilation CFD model was developed to assess comfort conditions at various times of year. Radiant floors provided the heating only building with the necessary comfort levels in winter whilst summer temperature swings were met with operable windows and sea breezes.
